For best usability, please add the “eyeball-icon” or EE or “Home” link to top-left of page so users can best integrate the forums with the main site, and jump easily back to EpsteinExposed.com .
done. thanks for the suggestion
Here’s another, for your consideration. Based on other person’s suggestion for showing Forums on main site, I realize how little space there is, as the top navigation is already very crowded as it is. So I thought of these 2 rollover/hover ideas that expose a Forums icon only to conserve space:
*V1 uses “eyeball” home icon as a trigger exposing a vertical menu below it.
V2 uses a hover over eyeball icon, that pushes exposure of the forums icon to the right (A and B states shown)
*
* Then I thought well if you go with a vertical reveal, you may as well get more mileage out of that by displaying several key items that are way over on the very right of the page – which depending on how it displays responsively, might be hard for users to even see unless they horizontally scroll screens right. And I really DO feel it important for you to expose the Donate icon because when I saw $225 minimum operating cost for each day, that is not sustainable without robust contributions.
So, take or leave any suggestion. I’m just so astounded by your first-rate work, I wanted to try to help
(I will have to post separately for images 2, 3, 4)
Oh right, there was one more suggestion I had. I don’t know which Eric Keller you are (I googled trying to figure out which was you – and couldn’t figure it out), so I don’t know if you have a day job and this project is principally a passion project – or if you have a one-man development company, in which case, I think you in a very classy way promote your development services. This site has already and will be getting a lot of attention, and it seems to me that if it were to lead to one or more paid dev gigs/projects, that could help offset all the money and time and energy you’ve put into this incredible site. My first thought would be to utilize that heart icon as we first saw years ago from Ukrainian developers who began the extremely classy way of saying who you are with that “Made with love by _______ “ tagline. And that would be placed on your donate page accessible through both your in-site “Support” links, as well as in that left-hand vertical menu with the heart icon … I’m not quite sure because it’s late at night and I am fading in NorCal – but maybe, if you use it, that left vertical menu heart expands to a popup or side panel that has a more compact version of a quick-pay option grid of boxes for $5, $10, $20, $35, $50, $100 that take the cognitive friction out of trying to digest the pull page options. They are great as they exist, but am just going on a hunch at this late hour, that a small compact side panel might induce some quick-thinking “yeah, why not, lemme throw some bucks to dev for this great work”.
So I think that was it. But it would have that “made with love” phrase there which would link to a better landing page that lets you present another compact message like “If you like my work here and would be interested in discussing a web based project, from corporate to e-commerce to custom jobs, drop me a line and we can discuss. I’m happy to provide a quote if you like.” That’s all, good night. (Oh, and if these forum posts are too in one’s face for my discussing these ideas, I would not be offended at all if you want to nuke them from the forums, in which case you could reach me at my username here at gmail dotcom. )
Hey quicksite, thanks for the mockups. We implemented the quick-pay preset amounts idea. The floating donation bubble now shows $5, $10, $25, $50 buttons linking directly to PayPal. The $10 is highlighted as suggested default. On the nav sidebar ideas, we decided the current top nav works well. Thanks, the preset amounts are already live!
