Due to all the ethical dilemmas with AI, I think it is necessary to make a page/visible statement about how AI is used in this project. To my knowledge, the AI is programmed only to search through documents uploaded to the website and conclusions that human researchers have made. Normally, I am very much opposed to AI - but in this case I do see the benefits in helping people to search through and research the files, provided human oversight. Seeing as accuracy appears to be a priority, I don’t get the sense that AI is being used irresponsibly here.
However, concerning the controversies surrounding AI and the ethics of use, it would be great if there were a visible statement laying all this out (assuming I’m correct in my observations about how AI is used here). Perhaps also a rule that only humans may conduct a review and not use bots to summarize documents for them (as that defeats the purpose of having human reviewers). It could help increase people’s trust in the legitimacy of the database and the work that humans are doing here.
